ESP provides a complete range of occupational exposure monitoring strategies to identify, assess and control risks to workers health. We regularly take workplace air samples during LEV testing to confirm if LEV systems are fully controlling workplace hazards.

All our occupational exposure monitoring is carried out using either UK HSE standard methods or internationally recognised validated methods such as, NIOSH or OSHA methods.

Substances commonly monitored include:

•  Nuisance Dusts (Inhalable and Respirable)
•  Solvent Vapours
•  Isocyanates
•  Welding Fume
•  Acid Gases
•  Formaldehyde
•  Resin Acids
•  Metal Fumes
•  Diesel Fume

Under the UK Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2005 employers have a legal duty to assess the risk to health created by work involving substances hazardous to health (Regulation 6), and if required the employer shall ensure that the exposure of employees to substances hazardous to health is monitored in accordance with a suitable procedure (Regulation 10).

The Health and Safety Commission (HSC) issue a list of legally binding Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) in the document EH/40. WELs are occupational exposure limits set under the COSHH regulations.

A WEL is described as the "maximum concentration of an airborne substance averaged over a reference period, to which employees may be exposed to by inhalation". Where a WEL has been set, there is a requirement for employees to take all reasonable precautions and exercise due diligence to reduce exposures as far below the limit as reasonably practicable
